Design Trends to Watch Out for in 2019

03 Jan, 2019

The New Year holds plenty of promises as far as digital design trends go. Contradictions are set to rule the roost with vintage fonts and moody visuals that kindle nostalgia rubbing shoulders with futuristic patterns and vivid color schemes. Here’s a sneak peek on what 2019 is heading towards:

Color Trends

  • Gradients - With screen and display technology growing by leaps and bounds, there is no looking back for gradients. Duotone gradients, especially, will be a favorite as rich colors that give a life-like look move into the limelight. Besides looking super cool on mobile devices, gradients open the door to many unique possibilities. (I mean, look at our website. Right?)
  • Retro Colors – 2019 shall see a comeback of Vintage Retro colors. Imagine the 70’s cameras which were not capable of capturing the deep saturated colors. Faded and desaturated warm and moody colors from the past are most likely to trend in the upcoming year.

Simply put, 2019 colors are either Retro or Vividly Futuristic.

Fonts

Custom Fonts - With brands and designers seeking greater personality in logos and typography they use, custom fonts are fast catching on. Often quirky, these fonts have a unique personality of their own bordering on the disruptive. In keeping with this bold new movement, splashes of vivid colors will push subdued tones to the backburner in 2019.

Nostalgic Vintage Fonts - A Classic touch to the modern world. Using vintage fonts and make your design look elegant, bold and yet nostalgic.

Bold & Loud - Bold and loud fonts dominate the design and it is an obvious choice to scream and shout your message out, making your posters or flyers visible from afar.

Design

Isometric Design – The simple way of sketching a 3D object in 2D makes more impact than any other design. This simple and clean method is on the heating up trend now, in the fast moving world.

Asymmetrical Layouts – The long-used grid-based designs are fading out and it is time to enter into a more alive asymmetrical design. Adding more kinetic energy and movement to it makes the designs stand out. The building up of curiosity for the user of not knowing what’s coming next after the seamless scroll makes them peruse more into the content.

Being Original - Originality wins hands down, any time; every time! Be on the lookout for custom and hand drawn illustrations that are virtually impossible to replicate. While colors and layouts can be easily duplicated, such illustrations are immune from being copied.

Thumb-friendly Layouts – With desktop browsing taking a backseat, thumb-friendly layouts are rushing to the fore given their ease of navigation on mobile devices.

Futuristic Influences – Integrating futuristic designs by taking advantage of the devices we have in our pockets each day will make the designs stand above and make more noise on social media. Let your creativity run wild with glitches and abstract patterns.

Variety and Flexibility

Super-functionality is seeping into design ideas, especially logos. Also known as variable logos, their most significant feature is their versatility as these can be adapted to suit the needs of specific audiences with distinctive iconography and typography.

Logos that trick the eye

Users are accustomed to scroll through many designs on their social media platform. It’s important to play visual tricks to keep them intrigued. So, pump up your creative juices to work on the art of perspective design and distortions. Usage of new age geometry, elevated negative space in designs are the most trusted ideas to attract the users.

One common thread running through all these trends is the intent to ensure that the design is user-friendly. Ease of navigation, fonts that are easy to understand, and uncluttered design are the hallmark of the design trends for 2019.
